Park Series: Wabun Park

WABUN PARK
Minneapolis, MN

What to expect?

  • Rubber flooring throughout with a cement sidewalk throughout
  • Regular, baby and accessible swings
  • Indoor bathrooms in pavilion nearby and in splash pad area
  • Fenced-in splash pad area with fountain mechanism (and cold water) plus changing rooms with bathrooms
  • Umbrellas atop the playground area provide decent shade. Not as much in splash pad area
  • Really busy on Saturdays and warm afternoons
  • Picnic shelters with plenty of picnic tables (many get reserved by parties on weekends)
  • Toddler area and big kid area – both are in close proximity so it’s not overwhelming at all
  • In the summer, field trips are aplenty here. Evenings are a lovely guarantee to avoid them.
  • Plenty of grass for a blanket picnic or letting your little one run freely
  • Large, free parking lot directly next to the splash pad, but can actually get full on busy days
  • After you’re done at the playground, maybe drive the half mile down the road and hike down to Minnehaha Falls to see the waterfall and wade in the water, or stop for ice cream or rent one of those goofy bikes and go on active tour of one of the most beautiful areas of Minneapolis.

What to bring?

  • Yard activities such as frisbees or soccer balls
  • Sand toys for small sand pit (if your kid is really into sand)
  • Swimsuits and towels if you want to enjoy the splash pad
  • Picnic blanket and snacks/lunches or go all in and do a BBQ on one of the provided grills
  • Sunscreen if you’ll be doing the splash pad area (not a ton of shade)
  • Money for ice cream if you want to enjoy Sea Salt Eatery’s ice cream or grab a beer (you need to drive over to this side of Minnehaha and park again, but it’s easy and worth it)
